Waterfall at New River Gorge National ParkIronically, New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world, spending millennia carving gorgeous canyons out of the misty Appalachian Mountains. Home to some of the US's best whitewater rafting, NRG also offers premium climbing spots, hiking trails, and waterfalls. Due to having one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world there is plenty of wildlife to observe in their natural habitat.

Base Jumper at New River Gorge, WV

One of the most exciting things to do in the newest National Park is jumping off the New River Gorge Bridge, famous for being the highest vehicular bridge in the US and featured on the back of the West Virginia state quarter. Every third Saturday in October annual "Bridge Day" is hosted on the bridge, and daredevils are allowed to jump off the bridge, with the appropriate gear of course.
