Although Auli is an excellent destination year-round, it turns into a fairytale destination in winter. The weather is cool throughout the entire year. The best season to visit begins in November and ends in February. Below are some more reasons you may want to make a trip to Auli in winter.

Sunset and Sunrise

Sunset in Auli, IndiaSee unique views of the sun in Auli while the hills embrace its rays, all while radiating the enchanting yellows, oranges and sometimes reds. The moon is also able to share some time and space with the sun on Auli skies. You can see this unusual meeting in early morning.

Go Trekking

Mountain Trekking in Auli

The snowy slopes of any Auli hill station are often known for winter sports. Head to Gurson Bugyal to trek and bask it its beauty – or that of any other hill. Don’t only enjoy it with your naked eyes. Bring a camera along and let the shutter help you grasp the detail forever. Listen for the shutter to echo back from the hills in this quiet region.

360 Degree Views of the Himalayas

Mountain Views Auli, IndiaAfter you enter a hill station, you will experience mountains on one or both sides. The area near Auli is filled with mountains, where you can experience the opportunity to see what the mountains have to show. Each peak has its own name and offers its own stories amidst the beautiful and serene tree lines that dot their height. The peaks include Nanda Devi, Mana Parvat, Hathi Parvat, Trushul, Dunagiri, Beethartoli, Ghori Parbat, Kamet and Nikanth.

Go on a Chari Car Ride

Enjoy up to 10,000 feet of sailing in the air for about 5km across the white serenity of Auli. Watch for an occasional green patch here and there. This is a great way to catch a glimpse of the longest Asian ropeway ride.

You can hop on one of two different ropeway rides: the Josimath-Auli Gondola, which is the longest, and the chair car ride that stretches from GMNV to Auli, which is about 800m. The gondola rides take place in closed boxes with glass windows, while the chair car is more of an airborne stack of chairs. Imagine being in these chairs and the 270 degree view of the valley. It will knock out any fears you have of heights – or make them worse, depending on your personality.

You can also take the ski lifts, which are a third sort of ropeway. They are only operational for professional skiing. So if you want to hitch a lift on one of these, you need to ski down the slope to the bottom of the hills, then ride back up the ski lifts, which offer panoramic views that will solidify that visiting Auli in winter is the right decision.
